I wonder if that will all fit?

Okay, um, an answer key to some of my titles, the ones that are songs, anyway. (The other ones, hell, I can't really remember what I was thinking.) It's the trendy thing to do, you know. I'm struck now by how many songs out there have the words "blah blah blah" in them, but because of my totally accurate transcription, I know they truly do. Oh librettists, shake your head.

2003-01-30 - just as long as I have breath I must answer yes to life
This is from a hymn we sing in my church. It's not y'know, a pro-lifer tune or anything, it goes on to talk about how love is the most important thing blah blah blah.

2003-01-29 - then you'll be with totoro totoro
There's this FREAKY japanese children's series about Totoro, a creepy giant furry animal spirit, who makes friends with two little hyperactive girls. They drive around in a bus MADE OF A GIANT LIVING CAT WITH 20 LEGS. Anyway. The themesong is very catchy.

2003-01-27 - I heard a voice from heaven saying un to me "Blessed."
This is from some verse or psalm or something in the new testament, but when I write it I have the haunting, haunting soprano line near the end of Rutter's Requiem stuck in my head.

2003-01-27 - sail the ship, bum ba bum, skip the rope, ba ba ba,
The beatles. I can never remember the order.

2003-01-25 - soup soup soup all day long soup soup soup while I sing this song
Okay, it's supposed to be "mop." Mop mop mop, all day long, mop mop mop while I sing this song. Gonna mop that floor and make it shine, or.. uh.. something something. I think it might be an adam sandler bit, but I have no idea. A fellow work-party slave while I worked at a summer camp used to sing it while we mopped. Secretly I liked the mopping, it reminded me of UHF. I did NOT like turning on the pump in the lake, because I wasn't physically strong enough to do it but was still expected to.

2003-01-23 - do not stand over my grave and weep I am not there
We are singing this in Daley's Requiem in choir.

2003-01-21 - sim shalom, sim shalom
And we are singing this in a couple of weeks too.

2003-01-20 - tra la la la la la lala brown eyed girl
The ubiquitous Counsellor Who Brought His Beat-Up Acoustic Guitar To Camp would always play this and "Wish you were here," probably because it's really, really easy to learn.

2003-01-20 - many days have you lingered around my cabin door
"Hard Times", stephen foster. also choir.

2003-01-19 - yes it's our bread we're fighting for but we fight for roses too
Bread and Roses! also choir. I totally had to restrain myself from marching in place, which would have been a bit silly, it's a very rousing song.

2003-01-17 - O lord if thou wilt be extreme to mark what is gone amiss Hah that sounds like they're begging someone to grade their homework.
Must be part of catholic liturgy? Or some other christian liturgy? Anyway, it's been in all the requiems so far. Er, except the homework part. You know, they're all beautiful, but I wish there were more (any?) unitarian composers with major works.

2003-01-15 - dishwasher dishwasher wash me a cup
Matchmaker. Sorry. Fiddler on the roof, which we saw at christmas.

2003-01-15 - la la la leprosy. I don't think that's a real song.
It's not, but it should be.

2003-01-13 - Maniac, maniac, okay I have no idea how that song goes. I think I have two or three 80s anthems mixed in to one tuneless blob.
Actually I'm not sure if I know ANY songs with a chorus that goes "maniac! maniac!" I think I'm thinking of Gloria.

2003-01-13 - Die Gedanken sind frei!
A hymn. Those crazy free-thinking germans. My boyfriend surprised me by knowing this one, but then there are germans way back in his fambly.

2003-01-11 - o come let us adore him, la da dee da
The carol, you know. Actually I probably had the bit from uh.. oh forget it.

2003-01-10 - Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears, while we all sup sorrow with the poor:
Hard times, again.

Jesus Christ.
Okay, andrew lloyd webber & whathisface.

2003-01-06 - I feel pretty, o so pretty, la da dee blah blah blah o so pretty
West side story. I didn't really like it.

2003-01-03 - we're one but we're not the same we get to carry each other
Here is the U2, see! I think. Only I only know the johnny cash cover, which I totally heart.

2003-01-02 - It sounds along the ages, soul whispering to soul
A hymn. My FAVOURITE hymn. Depressingly, I have misquoted it, it actually starts "It sounds along the ages, soul answering to soul."

2003-01-01 - open it open it release the world from your hold on it hold on it
Leah Abramson some more! Did I mention how cool she is?

2002-12-29 - won then neglected the pale wildwood flower
Wildwood flower. Or "I'll twine 'mid the ringlets of my raven black hair" as I prefer, ever since we found the original lyrics which actually make sense. In the most common version out there, actually the only recorded versions out there, they all sing stuff like "I'll twine with the mingles of my waving black hair." Mingles? What the hell is a mingle, people! And why is it waving!

2002-12-28 - where once was light now darkness is where once was love love is no more
Gollum's Song from the end of The Two Towers. I get a lot of hits from people looking for the lyrics to this one. This one, and the christmas carols. And star control II cracks which SORRY I DON'T HAVE okay actually I do have, but not for you to download, largely because I'm lazy. But yo, they're making a freeware win32 port of it, so soon you won't need to bother. La la la.

2002-12-27 - we're the second largest country on this planet earth / and if russia keeps on shrinking soon we will be first / (as long as we keep quebec) (as long as we keep quebec)

Let it snow. That's all I know.

2002-12-24 - where once was love now love is gone la la la doesn't michael jackson look like bjrk these days? so creepy.
Gollum's Song again. Not sung by michael jackson, but by someone who sounds kind of like bjrk, and actually he looks like an elf, but so does bjrk.

2002-12-23 - oh the holly bears a berry as red as the ENOUGH
Seriously, that frickin' carol makes no sense. Holly and the Ivy. Holly berries are not black as the coal or white as the milk, and even if they were it's a pretty slim frickin' connection from there to christ on the cross. Or on toast.

2002-12-23 - sheer heart attack
this is a queen album, maybe it is a song too. I don't know the song in that case, but it was perversely somehow stuck in my head anyway.

2002-11-29 - I saw maybe once a week, oh yeah once a week, once a week.. and never again.
The Cinch! Apparently they're breaking up, I am so sad about that.

2002-11-15 - mississippi! and the lake titicaca and the uh.. canada canada mexico mexico something something paraguay
Geographical Fugue, which I can't get right even with the words in front of me. I think it needs to be updated to include Uzbekistan and Tadjikhistan (am I spelling that right?), in fact a whole like *-stan section, and then you'd sing it at a concert and it would be stanning room only and you'd totally get a stanning ovation.

2002-11-15 - Just a deck of cards and a jug of wine
Rolling Stone, Hank Williams.

2002-11-14 - I'm going slightly mad

Not only do I know ths latin bit, I would cue my cd discman up to the latin bit (45 seconds in) and listen to it over and over, and swoon at the picture of what I thought was the band member singing it. Latin has some kind of magical power over me. Not that I know any latin, or even what this chorus means. For all I know it's a white supremacist slogan or a recipe for soup or something.
