I am not there, I do not sleep

Man, when did coffee stop being disgusting and start being delicious? I'm talking office coffee sludge, here, with those petrified sugar cubes and 2% milk that may or may not be past its best-before date. Just wondering.

I really want to put on my orange t-shirt and jeans and wander around the office singing the alto part of the requiem at top volume. I have a feeling this would not aid my professional reputation.

Man, it would be so great if all drugs in the country were paid for by the government. Think of the bargaining power, buying drugs for 30 million people at once. I bet the savings there alone would more than make up for any increase in drug use by people who don't have to worry about affording drugs. If that wasn't paid for already by reducing their eventual cost to the health system by hospitalizations etc. due to non-compliance. If it even exists. Woo! I bet "getting all prescriptions for freee!" would be one of very few arguments that people would enthusiastically back tax hikes for, too.

This is probably mostly a half-baked scheme, but ooh. I want to be in school and write papers about shit like this!

I was reading yesterday about kind of a mental divide in HMOs: drugs that increase cost of treatment, but reduce the cost of the disease. IE, a new drug that is more expensive to the HMO, but costs the patient less in lost work, etc. Whether to recognize that as a true savings. Oy! Let's get the whole damn world in a one-payer system for health care, all health care, including drugs, including preventative medicine, let's make it free and easy as water and air. Not that those are free and easy, increasingly, but lord that's a whole other oprah. This too is a half-baked scheme; different cultural health paradigms for one and of course GOOD LUCK FORMING A WORLD GOVERNMENT THERE, WORLD-CONQUEROR YAM, but heh.

I don't think there's ever been a day in my life where there was any doubt that I was a long-haired hippie socialist, even when I had a shaved head and worked for a mutual fund sales firm.

This day is so SLOW.
